Tips on fluid checks

Keeping up with routine maintenance for your car is essential in ensuring its longevity and safety. One important aspect of this maintenance includes checking the fluid levels and conditions of your vehicle regularly.

Here's a quick rundown of the different fluids you need to monitor:

Engine Oil

This lubricates the engine and keeps its components running smoothly. To check, park your car on a level surface, turn off the engine, and wait for a few minutes for the oil to settle. Locate the oil dipstick, pull it out, and wipe it clean. Reinsert it fully and take it out again to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the low and high marks on the dipstick. If the oil looks dirty or there are metal shavings, bring your car in for an oil change.

Brake fluid

This hydraulic fluid is responsible for stopping your car's wheels when you press on the brakes. You can find the brake fluid reservoir near the firewall at the back of the engine compartment. The brake fluid level should be between the minimum and maximum marks. If the brake fluid looks brown or cloudy, it's time for a brake fluid flush.

Power steering fluid

This fluid allows you to easily turn your steering wheel without too much effort. Locate the power steering fluid reservoir and check that the level is within the safe range. If the fluid looks foamy or brown, you need a power steering flush.

Transmission fluid

This fluid keeps your car's gears shifting smoothly. To check the level, make sure the engine is running and park on level ground. Look for the transmission fluid dipstick and follow the same procedure as the oil dipstick. If the fluid smells burnt or looks black, come see us at All Round Automotive Repairs for a transmission service.

Coolant

This liquid mixture keeps your engine from overheating. Locate the coolant reservoir, and ensure that the coolant level is between the minimum and maximum marks. If the coolant is dirty or there are signs of rust, we recommend a cooling system flush.

Remember, if you're not confident checking your car's fluid levels or if you notice anything askew in the fluids, bring your car in for a check-up at our Kilmore workshop. Our team of certified technicians will be more than happy to help ensure your car stays in excellent shape.

So, let's work together to keep your car running safely and smoothly for years to come.
